whole is greater than sum of parts

Overnight successes are rarely that.

Positive outcomes just don't happen because of pure luck.

Quick wins are rarely quick.

The underdog who makes a deep run in the NCAA tournament, the team who beats 5000-1 odds to become league champions, or the startup that seemingly comes out of nowhere - all of those happen because of hard work, passion, smarts, and grit.

Team members contribute to the best of their abilities, use their skill and knowledge, continue to learn, and believe in what they are doing.

Markets are assessed and competition is tracked. Strategies are mapped out, tactics are determined, and tasks are executed.

All of these things are done over and over again, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, until success is found.

If you're missing any of these pieces - the best people, the right culture and values, knowledge and the desire to expand upon it, and perseverance - it just won't work.

When something doesn't seem to be working, assess which part is missing and address that.

Because the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.
